I’m done fangirling until next week. :3
"Kindness is weakness, young Nala."
This is a sketch from a few months ago, featuring an older cub Nala (not quite a tween, but almost), and a young adult Zira; obviously during the in-between period of Simba’s supposed death and his return.
My theory is that Zira was once a member of Mufasa’s pride, but also felt very isolated because she was the only one in her age range (Sarabi and Sarafina were a little older as well as starting to have families), so growing up Zira looked up to Scar as a very strong lion and righteous leader, often confusing his abusive ways for effective authority.
As such, Zira, was often regarded as a little weird and having some off-center views but she wasn’t perceived as dangerous, so the cubs of the pride were still allowed to be around her.
Nala, bright as she is, often listened to the wisdom of the older lionesses, Zira included, but she quickly found herself disagreeing with her more than not.
This would eventually lead to a great rift in Zira and Nala’s relationship (or whatever potential relationship they could have had), as Nala grows up to hate Scar and Zira will continue to idolize him.
It’s a fun concept to play around with, since so much about the lionesses’ backstories are, at the most, only hinted at and Zira is an especially interesting character to deal with. I wanted to make her a little thicker, here, as during her time in the pride I assume she kept a relatively healthy weight (at least while she was younger and still sane).
I’m not too sure if I’ll eventually finish this particular sketch or just try doing another depiction…
Ain’t no shame in my fangirl game!
I couldn’t resist; sketching out a WIP to get the fangirl vibes out.
Sorry I’m so scary!!
Stray as some kind of war dog or super-territorial feral dog, drawn up while listening to “Somewhat Damaged” by NIN
I’m not too fond of the anatomy—it’s too squished up, but I really like the face and fur.
"fangirling the fuck out"
